Who Needs Frozen Pizza

So there we were mid afternoon and we were all getting hungry, and we thought what to have for tea. Asking Reubs he said he wanted pizza. The only problem was we didn’t have any, and like a typical family of a preschooler our normal go to pizza comes out of the freezer. So we were stuck…or were we!

Then I remembered we had been baking bread recently and my wife makes the yummiest bolognese and chillis, so surely we could whip up a homemade pizza. So the challlenge was on.

We got the ingredients together for making a simply bread dough I tweaked the ingredients slightly to come up with the following.

Pizza Dough Recipe

250g flour
3g yeast ( more is ok)
175ml water
1 desert spoon olive oil
1tsp sugar
Pinch salt.

Basically I reduced the amount and added a bit of Olive Oil.

Technique

To make the dough Reuben added the ingredients into the bowl and did what he does best mixed and making the worlds largest flour clouds.

When all the ingredients were together we turned it out and kneaded the dough for about 8 minutes. Then we let it rest for about an hour.

Now unlike normal bread making you do not need to leave the dough to prove after the resting stage, as we don’t want a huge loaf of a pizza. So we rolled it out and put it into a pizza tin next it was onto putting the sauce on.

Pizza Sauce Recipe

To make a simple pizza sauce blend chopped tomatoes (or use pasatta) add a bit of basil and garlic and heat in a pan until reduced slightly.

This was where Reuben was a true little chef, he spread the sauce over the base like a true Italian pizza maker.

However the same could not be said for the toppings, when his mum was trying to put the toppings on he ate more of the cheese than he was meant to put on the pizza.

However in the end it looked great, and we put it in the over for about 15 mins at 200c.

Then we ate it and it was yummy.
